BUDGET RECONCILIATION

Here we go again! What’s wrong with our leaders? They are going to use the reconciliation process to pass their healthcare bill! Reconciliation may have been a good idea when it was introduced in Congress in 1974, but like many things Congress is involved in, they have taken the process to an unintended extreme. Every American should be outraged that law will be passed with only a simple majority of votes. That’s 50% plus one more vote. In the Senate that means 51 votes instead of the 60 constitutionally required 2/3 majority of votes for major legislation. Can you imagine? One sixth of our economy will be spent on healthcare. This bill will be passed through the Senate without the 2/3 super-majority required by the constitution, a vital check and balance, setting precedence for future majorities to pass partisan legislation. This bill doesn’t even have full support of the Democratic majority! Don’t be surprised if VP Joe Biden is the one to cast the 51st vote..

Is this the way you want it to be? The majority party, whether it is democrat or republican, could use reconciliation to pass any bill they want by a simple majority vote. I don’t think that’s the direction America should be heading, do you?
